About Our Legal Services
Our legal service offers free legal advice to eligible clients in Toowoomba, Ipswich, the Darling Downs and Maranoa.
Our free, general legal services include information, referrals and legal advice and we aim to empower clients with self-help strategies to assist with their legal matters.
TASC has legal service offices Ipswich, Toowoomba, Roma and Goondiwindi. We also conduct a Rural Women’s Outreach Service for Charleville, Cunnamulla, Miles, Tara, Chinchilla, Dalby, Warwick, Stanthorpe, Goondiwindi and St George.
TASC’s legal service also participates in community legal education and systemic advocacy through law reform.
How we can help
If you are going through domestic and family violence, we can:
- Give you information on how to take out a domestic violence order.
- Assist you if you want to change a current order.
- Assist you if you are responding to a domestic violence order that someone has taken out against you.
TASC solicitors have experience helping clients with family law issues and work with family relationship centres in Toowoomba and Ipswich.
We can provide advice, referrals, and information about:
- Divorce and separation
- Court orders on children and property matters
- Child contact arrangements
We can help you fill out documents and help you understand the court process.
Civil and Consumer Law
Civil Law covers a wide range of areas:
- Consumer complaints: guarantees, warranties, and returns
- Credit and debt matters
- Motor vehicle accidents (property damage only, not personal injury)
- Neighbourhood disputes and dividing fences
- Peace and Good Behaviour
- Guardianship & Administration
- Child protection
We can also give you information and advice on negotiating with third parties (like companies you are in debt to), help you write letters and emails. Some examples of how we can help clients are:
- We can inform you of what your legal rights are in a neighborhood dispute.
- We can give legal advice on what to do if you have a problem with a faulty repair job or a product warranty.
- Where possible, we can provide advice and limited assistance with matters going to the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT).
TASC may be able to help with some minor criminal matters if you are facing charges in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court, Ipswich Magistrates Court, Roma Magistrates Court, and some regional courts. TASC is not based at any of the courts and can only help in a limited capacity, however if we are unable to help we will refer you to someone who can assist you.
We are unable to help with:
- Personal injury
- Commercial matters
- Conveyancing
- Tenancy for landlords
- Representation with criminal matters except in exceptional circumstances
- Drafting Wills
- Medical negligence

What to expect when you contact us
When you phone us on (07) 46169700 one of our friendly receptionists will take your contact details and a very brief description of your legal problem. They will pass this information on to our legal intake team to call you back on the number you provide.
During this call they will see if we can help you with your legal matter. They will gather more information about your legal problem and confirm if you’re eligible. This is a confidential service and this information will only be used for these purposes.
If we are unable to help we will always give you a referral to another service which may be able to assist.
While we endeavour to call you back within 48 hours of you contacting TASC, this wait time is often extended in busy periods. We kindly ask for your patience during this process.
Our team will then schedule an appointment with one of our solicitors. These appointments may be face to face at one of our locations, by phone or via video call.
After completing the form below, you will receive a phone call from our legal intake team to call you back on the number you provide.
During this call they will see if we can help you with your legal matter. They will gather more information about your legal problem and confirm if you’re eligible. This is a confidential service, and this information will only be used for these purposes.

To help our solicitors to give you quality and timely legal advice please bring any documents you think the solicitor would need to see to your appointment.
These may include document such as:
- Parenting plans
- Court orders
- Domestic violence orders
- Any correspondence from the Court, Police or other solicitors
- Any correspondence from other parties involved in your matter.
Also, please ensure you make suitable care arrangements for your children during your appointment time. They are not able to be present during your appointment.
If needed, a support person can attend with you, however their presence during your appointment is at the discretion of your solicitor on the day.
It can be useful to draft a list of your concerns or any questions that you would like answered during your appointment.
Eligibility
Once we confirm your legal problem falls under our areas of service we determine eligibility through the following criteria.
- Where you live – TASC is funded to provide our legal service to adults living in the Ipswich, Toowoomba, Darling Downs and south west Queensland regions.
- Financial situation – Our service is for people in a low to middle income situation. If you are unsure if you qualify, please contact us for a proper assessment.
- TASC will conduct checks during our legal intake call to make sure we comply with QLD legal practitioner rules.
